Craig Fineman was a US-based skateboard photographer working in the 1970s and 80s in CaliforniaPools is a book of his photographs documenting teenage skateboarders in Los Angeles in the 1980s skating empty residential backyard pools

All images, regardless of whether they are portrait or landscape format, are laid out in portrait format in one sizeThe result is that all images are printed large, but sometimes rotated 90 degrees clockwise or counter clockwise – accentuating the feeling of gravity when skating pools

The book format is 24 × 34 cm/9.4 × 13.4 in, the largest format possible to be folded in signatures of 8 on a standard B1 printing sheet without waste

The book is typeset in Times Bold in pool shapesThe large but thin volume is printed in duotone black, mostly on a sturdy matte coated stock, hardcover casebound, and includes content printed on golden yellow endpapers
